At Camp Strongbow, we
welcome visitors. We usually have a nice fire going. We especially welcome
those in the SCA community whom love and practice the Bardic Arts. If you
are a Bard, feel free to stop by—we will happily fill your mug or drinking
horn with beer, wine or mead and give you something nice to eat. We
especially love it if you sing us songs or tell us legends of brave and
mighty archers!!! We drum, too! Strongbow supports the Marshallate. Strongbow archers are asked to become Target Archery Range Marshals and/or Heavy Weapons Combat Archery Marshals if they possibly can. At House Strongbow we have a proud and dedicated history of service to the Target Archery and Combat Archery Marshallate, and we are proud of that. Strongbow target archers run shoots, operate target archery ranges when needed, design novelty shoots, authorize and train new archers and teach Target Archery classes at Collegium Caidis. Strongbow combat archers work within the fighter system to promote combat archery and thrown weapons as a fully historically correct and integral part of SCA combat, attend Command meetings and help their Warbands plan for battle, marshal for safety, glean and inspect arrows and bolts, and train new combat archers as well as teach combat archery skills at Collegium Caidis. We sponsor IKAC and IKCAC shoots at most events. We also keep a limited stock of loaner combat archery, target archery, and thrust and throw javelins for novices to use on a first come first served basis. We are very dedicated to helping novice target or combat archers get off to a good start and have a good time while doing so. We keep a bulletin board listing of target archery practices, fighter practices that allow combat archery, and local marshal contacts. We answer questions whenever we can. We are proud to serve as one of the premier archery resource households in Caid and elsewhere. For combat archers, we have a Siege Tower, one of the first of its kind. “The Tower” is 14 feet tall, weighs 1100 lbs and has 26 inch wheels. It was designed by Master Quinlin Phelan of Caid, whom also oversaw its construction. “The Tower” can be seen in our Photos section and at many major Wars in Caid. It also can be used by target archers!! |
